The rear "mulcher" type flail mower (we use both terms interchangeably) is a mechanical device, the working unit of which is a rapidly rotating horizontal shaft with cutting knives, the so-called beaters. Flail hammers can have different weights and sizes, and the parameters of the hammers depend on the category of the mower to which we can classify the mower. The second variable that determines the assignment of the category is the weight and size of the mower itself and the minimum required power of the tractor to which the mower can be connected. In our market, we distinguish three basic groups of mowers intended for tractors with power from 14 to 150 HP:

• light flail mowers ,
• medium flail mowers,
• heavy flail mowers ,

The size and weight of the mower's flails determine the categories to which we can include the device, but also determine the mowing possibilities. The heavier the mower and the heavier the hammers, the easier it is to mow high wastelands of large diameter, but the value - the minimum required tractor power - increases.

How does a flail mower work?

A flail mower is a tractor mower and for its operation it requires rotational power transmitted from a tractor (or other machine) equipped with a PTO shaft. The flail mulcher is a mower mounted on the tractor's linkage with a three-point linkage, abbreviated as the three-point linkage. The flail mower consists of a cutting unit (knife axle shaft with knives), a drive system (angular transmission, transverse drive shaft) and a housing with a three-point linkage turret to suspend the mower in the tractor. The whole structure is complemented by a copying and kneading shaft located at the rear of the mower and high-quality bearings, pulleys and V-belts. The drive from the angular gearbox to the cutting shaft is transmitted by means of pulleys on which three 17 mm wide belts are placed.

DPS 175 4FARMER is a heavy flail mower mounted on the three-point linkage of the tractor Cat I and Cat II . The cutting element is 28 flails placed on the cutting shaft with a diameter of 100 mm. The durable structure and bearings as well as the solid housing allow for trouble-free operation for many hours a day. The travel of the DPS 175 mulcher is a hydraulic shift operated by the tractor's hydraulic system. This solution allows the mower to be moved to the right or left in relation to the tractor axis by about 400 mm. The shift is equipped with hydraulic lines and a cylinder, therefore hydraulic outputs are required in the tractor (2 outputs and 1 section).

For all DPS and DPS-H fairy mowers, we can alternatively use Y-type knives / flails with a lower weight and a different cutting structure, which improves the quality and condition of mown areas, and the mower itself has a lower power requirement. We only use Y-type beaters / knives for mowing green grass.
