Power take-off shafts (PTOs), also known as drive shafts, are key components used in agriculture to transmit power from a tractor to a variety of agricultural machinery and implements. Thanks to them, it is possible to power devices such as lawn mowers, fertilizer spreaders, hay balers and many others.
Construction:
- Shaft: It consists of the main shaft and connection terminals. The main shaft is made of durable steel to withstand heavy mechanical loads.
- Crosses and bearings: Crosses connect the shaft to the connection ends and allow it to be flexible, and the bearings ensure smooth rotation.
- Protective covers: Rollers are often equipped with protective covers to protect the user from dangerous moving parts.
Application of power take-off shafts:
- Driving flail and rotary mowers: PTO shafts transfer power from the tractor to the mower, enabling effective cutting of grass and vegetation.
- Operating hay balers: The PTO drives the baling mechanisms, which is necessary for harvesting and processing hay.
- Fertilizer and manure spreaders: Thanks to the PTO shafts, the spreaders are able to evenly distribute fertilizer or manure on the fields.
- Tillage machines: PTO shafts can drive a variety of tillage machines such as tillers and harrows
