Flail mower with a petrol engine - what is an ATV mower?

A mower with its own petrol engine, attached to various vehicles - that is an ATV mower (ATV stands for All-Terrain Vehicle). There is no exact definition of an ATV mower, but it is certainly a grass mowing machine that, because it has its own engine, does not need power transmitted e.g. from a tractor or other machine (PTO shaft). An ATV mower has no drive of its own for moving, so it has to be towed, usually with a tow hook or the ball hitch of a car trailer. Even though the machine has an engine, an ATV mower must be towed by another machine, because the petrol engine of the mower drives only the cutting shaft or cutting blades, that is, it is responsible only for mowing the grass.

Types of ATV mowers:

• ATV flail mower
• ATV grooming mower

These mowers differ in the cutting unit. In ATV flail mowers these are special ATV hammers, flails mounted on the cutting shaft, while in ATV grooming mowers the grass is cut by a special ATV blade or blades that rotate in the same way as a helicopter propeller.

All ATV mower engines are equipped as standard with a manual recoil starter. The difference between the ATVM and ATVE mower models is the electrical system and the battery, which is visible on ATV-E mowers, and which obviously makes this version much more comfortable to operate - you only need to turn the key to start the mower.

What do we use an ATV flail mower for?

• with an ATV flail mower we can mow a lawn whose appearance matters to us as well as a meadow or an abandoned orchard,
• an ATV flail mower is also a municipal mower,
• an ATV mower can be attached to many vehicles: a quad, a motorcycle, a car, a ride-on mower tractor, an agricultural tractor, a mini tractor and many others,
• an ATV flail mower is very convenient to transport: it can be towed behind a machine over short distances, and over long distances it can be carried in a small trailer, in which it fits without problems,

The cutting height of the ATV flail mower is adjusted with an adjusting bolt located at the rear of the mower. The mower's road wheels are mounted on a special frame which, depending on its position (bolt adjustment), raises or lowers the wheels, which changes the height of the mower relative to the ground.
